UPDATE: 5/16/2009: With video game sales down this year due to the rough economy, the Nintendo DSi has put some light at the end of the tunnel for the fledgling industry. While the Wii dropped 43% in sales from March to April, according to Information Week, the DSi jumped nearly half a million units sold. This coincides with the U.S. release of the gaming unit, but certainly strong numbers for Nintendo in this economy. Many retailers have found it difficult to keep the Nintendo DSi on store shelves, you can find out using our in-stock tracker!

UPDATE: 5/4/2009: After selling over a half million units in it's first week on the market, it's about time that accessories for the Nintendo DSi are rolled out. Thrustmaster has released a cool stand for the Nintendo DSi that helps you hold the unit and doubles as a charger...for just $12.99! We'll get a tracker up shortly for that, it won't be released until mid-June. They've also released a wrist-strap charger for the DSi that can charge your unit wherever a USB port is available!

So, why do you need to find a Nintendo DSi in stock when you or your kid already has a Nintendo DS? If you're the type to get your son or daughter every new toy, then you have your answer, but if you need to be convinced, keep reading. If you sign up for our Nintendo DSi tracker and are lucky enough to find a Nintendo DSi in stock, you'll find the top 10 updates to the original Nintendo DS in our Nintendo DSi review:

1) The screen is bigger, by 17%, so you don't have to hold the Nintendo DSi so close to your face.

2) It's thinner - by 12%, and although only slightly, anything helps when you're used to carrying the original.

3) It includes a camera! So, you can kill two birds with one stone. Buy the Nintendo DSi and get a gaming system and digital camera (3 Megapixel) in one.

4) Audio enhancements - you won't hear the normal 'static' or 'scratching' noises you are used to.

5) Memory Slot - The SD memory slot allows you to take photos and look at them on your Nintendo Wii.

6) Built In Browser - A built in internet browser makes it possible to download games online and play them on your new Nintendo DSi.

7) A Digital Shop - Peruse the digital online shop and download DSiWare. You can download add-ons to the Nintendo DSi as well as games. When you first log in to the Digital Shop, you get 1,000 FREE points to spend!

8) Music Playback - Full music play back, as well as adjusting the pitch and playback speed. One of those features that kinda makes you shrug your shoulders.

9) Compatability - Most of your favorite Nintendo DS games will work properly on the new Nintendo DSi, they'll just look and sound better.

10) Release & Cost - The Nintendo DSi will be released in the U.S.A. around April 4th, or spring 2009. The cost? Only $179.99, which is really only about $50 more than the Nintendo DS.

So, is it worth the upgrade? For the serious gamer, absolutely. The camera and built in browser alone are instant upgrades that make it worth the purchase, not to mention it's thinner and has a bigger screen. The price is reasonable given the enhancements.

Find your new Nintendo DSi in stock using our Nintendo DSi tracker. It's not available yet, but on the release date, we'll update the tracker. Sign up now so you don't waste time on the day of release. Good luck to everyone!
